Singapore Polytechnic Toastmasters Club 90th Chapter Meeting

Last Wednesday on Our 90th Chapter Meeting, on 17th Oct 2012, 7-10pm at Innovillage Conference Room, level 3, the theme was about social media and the future. How social media has affect our daily lives as an Urban person. Does the social media brings the people connection closer or making us to get to know each other further?

Social media such as Facebook is a social networking service launched in February 2004, owned and operated by Facebook, Inc. As of September 2012, Facebook has over one billion active users, more than half of them using Facebook on a mobile device. Users must register before using the site, after which they may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organized by various networks to keep their info updated. On a personal level, the users are able to upload their photos or videos any time of the day.

Some of us concerned about the privacy is affected. Some of them feels that it is a great way to tap on their marketing businesses. Some feel that social media has not even fully utilised yet. Everyone of us has our own point of views in whether should we allow the social media to be part of our lives.Ultimately, I believed that we would prefer the social media will provide more benefits and convenience for us rather than having a negative feedback or remarks. Whatever it is, social media has evolved to the support the generation which  welcomes the needs of the free speech.

On the whole, face to face communication is still very important because that is the area which trust and bonding are build. Social media can never replace the heart to heart communication. The advice is use the Social Media according to your own needs.

So, what are your views about social media?

Moliere
