Singapore Polytechnic Toastmaster Club 86th Chapter Meeting

Every speakers, even great speakers utter filler words such as "Um, Er, You know". While this is a common mistake and does not distort the speech, excessive use of filter words might affect your credibility and show a lack of preparation in your speech.

With that in mind, what can we do to reduce filler words? Let me give you some suggestions:

1. Take note of the number of fillers in your average speech. Get someone to monitor it for you.
2. Why are you doing this? Are you speaking too fast for your train of thoughts to catch up? Are you nervous?
3. Prepare your speech well!
4. Slow down......... This gives you the time to think what to say next. Make good use of the pause. Replace the fillers with a pause, and think of what to say next.

So come down this coming Wednesday, 20th Jun, to our Chapter Meeting and get rid of those filler words!

Refreshments are provided. See you there!
